Making new friends is Myrna’s most memorable moment as a participant in Senior Services. Four years ago, Myrna had few friends and had begun treatment for a health condition that causes a visible tumor to appear on the outside of her body. Today, Myrna looks forward to Thursdays because she gets to catch up with friends and build impactful relationships.
The relationships Myrna’s made in Senior Services have impacted her to reach out to seniors in her community. This year, she became a volunteer driver for participants who are unable to access transportation to our Senior Services sites. Myrna can also be seen at several other events hosted by our program. Going to play card games weekly may seem simplistic to some, but attending this Senior Services event has changed Myrna’s life.
Our Senior Services partners with local church ministries to offer support to the patriarchs and matriarchs of our city. Partners like SAJE and South County Senior Ministries host programs, including Lunch and Learn, dinner theater, zumba and pickleball, to empower our seniors to build impactful relationships with one another and to thrive both physically and spiritually.
