“I felt like a queen for a day.”
That’s how Mary Finch describes her Affordable Christmas experience this year.
After her son was hospitalized and in a coma with collapsed lungs, Mary was certain that her four grandchildren were not receiving presents this year. Just days after she received news about her son’s unemployment, Adams Elementary sent home Affordable Christmas applications for families to apply. Mary immediately filled out the form and received the phone call soon after. Within the first few moments of the call, she learned she was invited to come shop.
Mary was amazed by the Affordable Christmas experience. She felt welcomed by the volunteers’ smiling faces and gracious assistance from a personal shopper, whom she called “angels on a mission.” Seeing her grandchildren’s reaction to their gifts bought the most joy for Mary. Her granddaughters received clothing and accessories while her grandson received toys and a scooter. Despite the difficulties they faced that year, Mary’s family was able to have the Christmas they deserved.
