Jay first started with us as a donor, but upon retiring, he wanted to spend more of his time helping and influencing others. That’s when he began working directly with our Beyond School students. Today, Jay assists sixth graders with homework and literacy exercises twice a week.

One of Jay’s fondest memories of the students was when he attended a St. Louis College Prep basketball game with his son. The students pointed and waved at him, expressing their disbelief that a volunteer came to support and watch them play.

Jay’s motivation for volunteering is fueled by a desire to help and a hope to be a positive influence for our students. He suggests anyone interested in volunteering to take the chance despite experience or skill set, “You will get more out of it than you put in.” The unwavering joy he feels after volunteering with our students is the highlight of his day.
